Cramer sees potential for new roaring 20s-type economic boom as Covid concerns recede - CNBC

Image
CNBC's Jim Cramer said Wednesday the U.S. economy looks like it has the potential to boom as Covid concerns ease much like it did after the 1918 flu pandemic receded. "I think we could go to a period where we have an economic boom not unlike post-World War I," he said. Closely following the end of the war, the U.S. started to see its first cases of what would become the 1918 flu pandemic. But as that pandemic, more than 100 years ago, started to let up in the early 1920s, the U.S. economy and the stock market ushered in the Roaring 20s. Industrial production doubled from 1921 until just before the 1929 stock market crash, according to historical data compiled by Yardeni Research. Direct comparisons to present day gross domestic product, the benchmark for measuring economic growth, are difficult as comprehensive economic record-keeping started in earnest after World War II. However, Ed Yardeni told CNBC the U.S. economy in the 1920s was largely industrial and production fi

Omicron symptoms: Two signs you might have not heard of appearing in the vaccinated - Express

Image
The Omicron variant has been driving a daily surge in cases, reaching more than 100,000 Brits so far. Scientists and researchers have now been able to identify the symptoms of this highly transmissible strain. People who tested positive for Omicron are also self-reporting the warning signs. Here's how to spot them. Most people are now familiar with the original symptoms linked to Covid, which detail cough, fever and loss or change to taste or smell. However, the new Omicron variant seems to be causing slightly different symptoms you might have not heard of before. As the NHS website only lists the original three symptoms, it might be difficult to connect the signs that are bothering you with the new strain. That's why being aware of the emerging symptoms could help you spot it and protect others. READ MORE:  Omicron symptoms: The sign on your skin which could be signalling the new variant The research into symptoms comes from a variety of sources, including scientists

Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy: Causes, Symptoms, and Outlook - Verywell Health

Image
Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is nerve damage caused by diabetes that occurs in the extremities—the feet, legs, hands, and arms. This is the most common type of neuropathy in people with diabetes and affects about one-third to one-half of people with diabetes. The risk of developing diabetic peripheral neuropathy increases with the duration of diabetes. Other factors that may increase a persons risk are glycemic control (as measured by hemoglobin A1C), age, smoking, diabetic retinopathy, high triglycerides, and a person's body mass index (BMI). Athima Tongloom / Moment / Getty Images  Causes of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy The exact cause of peripheral neuropathy is unclear. But we know that elevated blood glucose, metabolic factors, genetic predisposition, and duration of diabetes can increase the risk. Elevated blood sugars and inadequate blood flow can result in nerve damage in the extremities. High blood glucose can impair

Lower left back pain: 9 causes and treatment options - Insider

Image
The most common cause of low back pain on the left side is a muscle strain.  Other causes of lower left back pain include a kidney infection, herniated disc, and pregnancy.  To treat lower left back pain, take OTC pain relievers, improve your posture, and apply heat. Visit Insider's Health Reference library for more advice. A stabbing or throbbing pain on the lower left side of your back can sideline you from exercise and basic activities for days. The good news is that it's probably because you've strained some of your back muscles or ligaments, which will heal over time. But in some cases, unilateral back pain, like on just the left side, signals a serious issue like an infection or injury that needs medical care. Here are nine potential causes of pain on the left side of your lower ba

Missing Teeth: Causes, Impact, Treatment - Verywell Health

Image
It's not uncommon to have missing teeth. In fact, a survey in 2015 found only 48% of American adults ages 20–64 have a full permanent (or secondary) set. Nearly 1 in 5 seniors over 65 are missing all of their teeth (called edentulism). Genetic conditions, gum disease, injury, cavities, and tooth decay are among the many causes of tooth loss. Tooth loss can affect chewing patterns, cause bone loss, and impact self-esteem, and it can lead to other health conditions if left untreated. Fortunately, there are ways to restore your smile, such as with dental implants, dentures, and dental bridges. This article discusses the causes and impact of tooth loss or lack of tooth development, as well as what you can do about it. RapidEye / Getty Images Causes of Missing Teeth All people lose their initial, or primary, set of teeth (commonly known as baby teeth) as they age. However, the 32 secondary (adult) teeth that replace the original are permanent. That sa

Poor hygiene brings the economy down - Daily Pioneer

Image
The challenges in accessing adequate water supply, sanitation facilities and poor hygiene practices lead to a rise in diseases, causing  increased economic burden Access to hygiene and sanitation facilities is a fundamental human right and one of the key determinants of health. According to the 2017 'Household Survey for the Assessment of Toilet Coverage under Swachh Bharat Mission', 39.9 percent of India's rural population defecates in open and about 26 percent people do not use soap or detergent to wash their hands afterwards (National Sample Survey 2019). The challenges in accessing adequate water supply and sanitation facilities coupled with poor hygiene practices lead to a rise in diseases which can result in higher economic burden, exceeding investments in hygiene and sanitation systems. The sixth Sustainable Development Goal is to 'Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all' by 2030. Since Water, Sanitation

Ultomiris Rapidly Eases Generalized MG Symptoms in Phase 3 Trial - Myasthenia Gravis News

Image
Treatment with Ultomiris (ravulizumab-cwvz), a complement-blocking therapy, quickly eased symptom severity in adults with generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG), according to data from a Phase 3 trial. Findings were shared at the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA) Scientific Sessions 2021 in the presentation, " Efficacy and safety of ravulizumab, a long-acting terminal complement inhibitor, in adults with anti-acetylcholine receptor antibody-positive generalized myasthenia gravis: Results from the phase 3 CHAMPION MG study " (abstract No. 29). "These data provide confidence that ravulizumab has the potential to become the new standard of care for gMG and may reduce patient burden with its less frequent dosing schedule, leading to better treatment adherence and patient satisfaction," Laura Gault, vice president of neurology clinical development at Alexion Pharmaceuticals, the therapy's developer, said in a written statement to Myasthenia Gravis News

Pope calls for "dialogue" at Christmas in light of the epidemic - Amico Hoops

Pope Francis, on Saturday, called for dialogue to counter the tendency to turn inward caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which celebrated Christmas for billions of people for the second year in a row. In the traditional blessing of Urbi et Orbi on Christmas Day, the pontiff reminded the faithful gathered in St. Peter's Square that "in this time of pandemic (…) our capacity for social relations is tested, it reinforces the tendency to come close, to defend itself, to abandon Go out, meet, collaborate." "In the international arena, too, there is the danger of unwillingness to dialogue, and the danger that the complexity of the crisis will lead to the selection of shortcuts, instead of the slower paths of dialogue," he added. As usual, the Pope recalled the regions of the world that were plagued by conflict It also addressed the economic and social repercussions of the health crisis that casts its shadow over Christmas for the second year in a row. And Fran
