MS Young Adults: Age of Onset and Early Symptoms - Verywell Health

Image
Young adulthood is a time when individuals are typically enjoying independence and exploring new careers, passions, and relationships. Unfortunately, the 20s to 30s age range is also when multiple sclerosis (MS) is most likely to strike. In MS, a person's immune system attacks the fatty covering (myelin sheath) of nerve fibers within their central nervous system (CNS). The CNS consists of your brain, spinal cord, and the optic nerves of your eyes. The damage to myelin , known as demyelination , impairs nerve signaling between the CNS and the rest of the body. Depending on where the demyelination occurs, symptoms like numbness, fatigue, weakness, and vision disturbances can arise. In this article, we'll explore the manifestation of multiple sclerosis in young adults, from symptom onset and progression to diagnosis and treatment. Warning signs of a heart attack that may be misunderstood as indigestion - Times of India

Image
According to Harvard Health Publishing, burning chest pain that begins at the breastbone could be a sign of heartburn (GERD). Similarly, the American Heart Association (AHA) states, "Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes – or it may go away and then return. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain." Given that both the conditions can trigger chest discomfort, the best way to get yourself diagnosed is through tests and heart screenings. Also, if you experience constant, persistent pressure, tightness, pain, or a squeezing or aching sensation in your chest or arms that may spread to your neck, jaw or back, call for medical support immediately.

What are the health effects of mould, and how do you get rid of it? - ABC News

Image
After months of heavy rainfall and increased humidity along Australia's east coast, many people are now dealing with an unwelcome and often stubborn house guest: mould. A type of fungus, mould is present almost everywhere. It lives on plant and animal matter and plays an important role in our ecosystem. But mould growth inside the home, often brought on by flood damage, plumbing leaks or damp and humid conditions, can be damaging to our health, especially when left unchecked. "There's always mould in every house, but it needs dampness to grow, and there's a lot [of dampness] at the moment because of the floods and rain," said Holly Jones, a researcher in the healthy housing unit at Melbourne University's school of population and global health. "What causes illness is certain species of mould being more concentrated … so by keeping your house dry, you're keeping that in check." Mould can affect everything from clothing to furniture, and i

Tingling hands could also signal an underlying condition like diabetic neuropathy or fibromyalgia. Most people have experienced tingling hands at some point.  This might present as the "pins and needles" feeling that people get when their arm falls asleep. In other cases, it might be accompanied by pain, burning, or weakness.  In almost all cases, tingling hands are caused by something going wrong in the nervous system. "This sensation is typically caused by a nerve being irritated," says Daniel Gittings, MD, orthopedic surgeon and hand and wrist specialist with Hoag Orthopedic Institute. In Rural America, Covid Hits Black and Hispanic People Hardest - The New York Times

Image
At the peak of the Omicron wave, Covid killed Black Americans in rural areas at a rate roughly 34 percent higher than it did white people. The coronavirus pandemic walloped rural America last year, precipitating a surge of deaths among white residents as the virus inflamed longstanding health deficits there. But across the small towns and farmlands, new research has found, Covid killed Black and Hispanic people at considerably higher rates than it did their white neighbors. Even at the end of the pandemic's second year, in February 2022, overstretched health systems, poverty, chronic illnesses and lower vaccination rates were forcing nonwhite people to bear the burden of the virus. Black and Hispanic people in rural areas suffered an exceptionally high toll, dying at far higher rates than in cities during that second year of the pandemic. In towns and cities of every size, racial gaps in Covid deaths have narrowed. That has been especially true recently, when major gains in populat
